WWE champion John Cena has come under the scanner for his recent remark on Taiwan. During the promotion of Fast and Furious 9, Cena called ‘Taiwan’ a country. He later apologised to China and the Chinese people
WWE champion John Cena is busy promoting his upcoming film Fast And Furious 9 in full swing now. With only a few days left for the movie release, the actor has come under the scanner for his recent remark on Taiwan. During the promotion of Fast and Furious 9, Cena called ‘Taiwan’ a country. In an interview with Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS said, “Taiwan is the first country that can watch the newest Fast & Furious movie, F9." This statement made by Cena got many enraged. John Cena’s comment sparked an outrage. He later apologised to China and the Chinese people
According to a report in The New York Times, in a video posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, speaking in Mandarin, John Cena apologized profusely to China and its people. He admitted he has made a mistake and began his apology saying, “I made a mistake”. The 44-year-old wrestler-turned-actor added, “Now I have to say one thing which is very, very, very important: I love and respect China and Chinese people.”
John Cena said he is very very sorry for his mistakes and mentioned he loves and respects China and the Chinese people. The actor said, “I'm very sorry for my mistakes. Sorry. Sorry. I'm really sorry. You have to understand that I love and respect China and Chinese people.”
For the unversed, Taiwan is considered as Beijing’s territory as claimed by the People’s Republic of China. The reason for the outrage is because there is a global debate on whether Taiwan is a country or not. As per reports, Taiwan’s democratic government is only recognised by 17 countries. Meanwhile, it was in 2018 that John visited China. The actor stayed in the country for a few months for the shoot of Jackie Chan's action thriller Project X-Traction. F9, directed by Justin Lin, also starring Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez is scheduled to release in the US on June 25.
